792 - 805

Why is it canonical?

The structure of which this chapel was a part was Charlemagne's declaration that was emperor. Based on imperial architecture from Ravenna, It is one of the earliest uses of westwork, or monumental western front of a church, which became common in other Carolingian architecture, as well as in Ottonian and German Romanesque architecture.
