Speyer Cathedral

1080 - 1106

Why is it canonical?

In Germany, Romanesque architecture, and the revival of Roman forms, was filtered through the tradition of Carolingian and Ottonian traditions. Speyer cathedral was among them, and contained the tombs of Holy Roman Emperors. It innovated Romanesque architecture by introducing the groin vault, which allowed for more window openings.
