Apoxyomenos pio clementino inv1185 n3

"Apoxyomenos"

circa 330 BCE

Why is it canonical?

The outstretched arm of the statue moves into the viewers space, and represents an innovation in sculpture: the viewer must move around the sculpture to understand it fully. Lysippos' use of this device indicates a move toward illusionism in sculpture.
