Palazza della Signoria

circa 1298

Why is it canonical?

The Palazzo della Signoria represented the ambitions of the merchant class, who aligned with the papacy, against the more aristocratic ambitions of families who aligned themselves with the Holy Roman Emperor. Its defensive structure represented the defense of the common good against entrenched powers.
