Doges palace

Doge's Palace

circa 1340

Why is it canonical?

Built in the Gothic style (somewhat late considering the era of gothic architecture), the Doge's palace was the center of power of Venice, which enjoyed a completely different political dynamic as the rest of Italy given its commercial dominance and accompanying navy. It stands today, a unique centerpiece in Venice with its stark facade and dominating repetitive arches.
