Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry

1413 - 1416

Why is it canonical?

International Gothic style expanded into the illustration of manuscripts, such as this one created for Jean, Duke of Berry, brother of noted patrons Philip, Duke of Burgundy and King Charles V. The same artists who applied the color to another emblematic International Gothic work, the Well of Moses at Chartreuse de Champmol, created this illustrated book of the hours, conformed to the medieval trope of depicted 12 cycles of the year demonstrated by the actions of a figure, and applied the new International Gothic style and it's accompanying attention to detail.
