Masaccio7

The Tribute Money

circa 1420

Why is it canonical?

Masaccio was the greatest painter of his generation, and both epitomized the early renaissance period as well as moving forward his medium (painting). This work, located inside the Brancacci chapel and appearing among various other frescoes done by other noted painters of the period, employs linear perspective, a new innovation in painting and making this one of the first works to do so.
