Piero francesca urbino

Double Portrait of Battista Sforza...

circa 1472

Why is it canonical?

Another one of Tuscany's great painters, Piero della Francesca, caught the attention of many of the era and region's patrons, eager to hire another student of the great teacher Domenico Veneziano. This unique portrait, featuring its subjects at complete profile over a detailed landscape, displays incredible texture and color, and commemorated the death of the woman on the left.
