Why is it canonical?

John Dunstable was preeminent among English composers during the first half of the fifteenth century. Much of his fame came from his flexibility and creativity, playing on structures and methods popular for years as well as completely novel melodies. This is one of four parts that make up a four part work that is Dunstable's most famous.
