Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen

circa 1480

Why is it canonical?

Netherlandish composer Henricus Isaac spent time patronized by both Lorenzo de Medici and the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. So much time spent in various courts gave him a pan-European style and an inclination towards melding styles from different regions. "Innsbruck" demonstrates this, as a German Lieder set to an Italian structure.
