Vida sueno

La vida es sueño

circa 1635

Why is it canonical?

La vida es sueño, or Life is a Dream, has been called the epitome of Spanish Golden Age drama, a tradition started by Lope de Vega and continued by others, but none so famously and successfully as Calderon de la Barca. The play is a philosophical exploration of the meaning of life, and elevated the Spanish language.
