Almagest 1

Almagest

circa 147

Why is it canonical?

The Almagest was the most complete collection of astronomical knowledge compiled at the time that Ptolemy published it, and remained a vital resource on astronomy for many centuries after. Given the nature of astronomical calculation, the Almagest is also a resource for the geometrical and trigonometrical knowledge used by astronomers, mathematicians, and cartographers in the ancient world.
