Euclid s elements 1482

Elements

circa 300 BCE

Why is it canonical?

Euclid is widely regarded as the father of geometry, and the concepts he put forth in the Elements remain the corner stone of geometrical mathematics today. In addition to a major achievement in mathematics, Euclid's geometrical work enabled other scholars working in fields such as astronomy and cartography, as well as engineering applications, to make further advances for centuries to follow.
