Book of Optics

circa 1011 - 1021

Why is it canonical?

The Book of Optics, or Kitāb al-Manāẓir, was written by al Haytham during the Islamic golden age, and revolutionized scholarship on the behavior of light and our perception of it, as well as how color works. His work turned the popularly held views of such eminent scholars such as Euclid, Aristotle, and Ptolemy on their heads, and proved without a doubt that we perceived light as it entered the eye.
