Kepler astronomia nova

Astronomia Nova

1609

Why is it canonical?

Although ostensibly a study of the motion of Mars, the Astronomia Nova is Kepler's opus on planetary motion, further establishing Copernican theory of heliocentrism, and positing the elliptical motion of free floating planets (rather than bodies fixed on rotating spheres).
