Tomb of Henry II & Catherine de Medici

1563 - 1570

Why is it canonical?

The royal tombs at the Abbey Church of Saint-Denis exemplify the contributions of the School of Fontainebleu, featuring architectural work around the tomb by Francesco Primaticcio and sculptural work both above the structure and within it by Germain Pilon. The techniques and mastery of the forms borrowed heavily from the innovations seen in Italy during the preceding generations.
