The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

1498

Why is it canonical?

An early Renaissance artist in Northern Europe was Albrecht Durer, who like other artists of his time living and working outside of Italy but deeply influenced by trends and techniques there, fused local and regional traditions with the Italian style. This woodcut is one of many, medium-defining works depicting biblical themes mixed with rampant symbolism.
