Loves of the Gods

1597 - 1601

Why is it canonical?

Unlike the more radical Caravaggio, Carracci stuck to more mainstream tastes. His work reflects the strides of the High Renaissance and its most important artists such as Michelangelo and Raphael, and often depicted classical subjects. Like other times and media, ceilings frescoes such as these demonstrated the wealth of the patron.
