Market stall

Market Stall

1614

Why is it canonical?

This work exemplifies Baroque still life and its distinguishing characteristics. The table filled with food and animals has a sense of immediacy and lavishness not seen in earlier still life pieces. The work was created under the supervision of Pieter Brueghel the Younger, son of the famed Pieter Brueghel the Elder and brother of Jan Brueghel the Elder.
