Why is it canonical?

Sensual, erotic, and painted mostly in pastels, this rendition of the Toilet of Venus them was painted by Francois Boucher, who rose in prominence during the Rococo period after the death of Watteau. The piece was probably for Madame de Pompadour, a mistress of the king.
