Jacopo da bologna

"Non Al Suo Amante"

circa 1350

Why is it canonical?

An Italian trecento, this piece is in many ways representative of the Italian answer to French Ars Nova. It is a madrigal for two voices, intended to be sung without instrumental accompaniment. This is a setting of a Petrarch poem.
